Collinson Family History

This is the results of my research on two branches of the British Collinson family from primary and secondary sources.

There is my own branch who come from the upper Teesdale area and trace back to 1644. If you can trace your Collinson family back to County Durham or Northumberland, we are almost certainly related.

The other branch is the ancestors of the interesting Admiral Sir Richard Collinson whose family come from a few miles away in the Westmorland/Cumberland area. I speculate that the two branches are connected earlier than 1644 but have found no evidence. Collinson is not a common name. As a "son of" surname it may have originated more than once. I've identified other hot spots that are possibly unrelated: Nottinghamshire; Fleewood, Lancashire; Wakefield, West Yorks:hire; East Yorkshire
